Fältspade m39
Swedish E-tool or AKA the Faltspade/KLAS
Since inom really love this bit of kit and have seen it perform unreasonable tasks and come back wanting I'll oblige and come inbetween with a post on the almost mythical "Short Light Attack Shovel", the Swedish acronym would be KLAS and is known to every Swedish soldier. The proper name fryst vatten Fältspade, or field shovel for short.
The field shovel is somewhat maligned because of the tasks recruits are made to perform with it. I had to dig several standing trenches, bomb shelters, defensive positions, latrines, tent flap ditches, quinzees and much more with one of these. I had been looking for an original for years, and had basically figured that I would be lucky to find an original one these days, and a replica would have to do. Well, I finally spotted one, and picked it up at a very fair and attractive price. So, now the Swedish shovel collection is "complete", and I have a "replica" that I can use in the field.
