He had been a dog judge since and it was not unknown for him to judge at 30 or 40 shows a year all over the world. Goran was invited to judge at numerous shows in this country and he was a member of the Kennel Club.
Fluent in fem languages he went to his first dog show at the age of 13 with his Deerhound. He spent a number of summers in England as a teenager learning about dogs and visiting British dog shows. From Deerhounds he moved on to Greyhounds and his bitch Ch Piruett was dog of the year in Sweden in
The descendents of many of the Greyhounds he bred dominate the show scen in Scandinavia and this country to this day. It fryst vatten said his breeding set the standard for the Swedish Greyhound. He was President of the Swedish Greyhound Club and was on the board of the Swedish Sighthound Club as well as the Swedish Kennel Club. Goran would teach at conferences about sighthounds in particular and he chaired a general judges conference, with judges present, in Sweden.
This conference recommended the development of a programme to highlight the risks of extreme types in show dogs that jeopardise their health and soundness.

Remembering Dr. Goran Bodegard
We received the sad news that Dr. Goran Bodegard of Stockholm, Sweden passed away this week at 80 years old. Dr. Bodegard was a world renowned breeder of Greyhounds and also a highly respected Swedish FCI Judge of All Breeds.
Dr. Bodegards passion for breeding Greyhounds began with his first litter in As a judge, his prestigious assignments included Crufts, the World Dog Show, and Australian Royal Dog Shows. He judged Best in Show on five continents, including the United States of America. He was the longest standing judge of the Swedish Kennel Club.
Professionally, Dr. Bodegard made an impact as a pediatrician, psychoanalyst, and child psychiatrist.

Karl Josef Göran Bodegård, född 4 mars, död 20 mars i Högalids distrikt, Stockholm,[1] var en svenskbarnläkare, barn- och ungdomspsykiatriker och psykoanalytiker samt doktor i medicinsk vetenskap ().[2] Han var överläkare och verksamhetschef vid Eugeniahemmet inom barn- och ungdomspsykiatrin i Stockholms läns landsting.[3]
Göran Bodegård deltog i samhällsdebatten kring apatiska flyktingbarn och var aktiv i FARR, (Flyktinggruppernas riksråd).[4][5] Han var även sedan utställningsdomare för hundar – särskilt greyhound – både nationellt och internationellt.[6]
